Amerika Birleşik Devletleri (ABD) tarihsel süreçte Ortadoğu ile ilgili siyasi, ekonomik ve askerî bakımdan çeşitli politikalara sahiptir. Bunlardan birisi de Büyük Orta Doğu Projesidir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, ABD için hem jeopolitik durumu hem de küresel güç yarışındaki stratejik değeri ile önemli bir saha olan Ortadoğu’da uyguladığı, ‘Büyük Ortadoğu Projesi’ ile başarılı veya başarısız olduğuna dair çıkarım yapmaktır. Bu çalışmada, ABD’nin, küresel ve bölgesel çıkarlarını ortaya koyan Büyük Ortadoğu Projesinin başarısız olduğu öne sürülmektedir. Bu çalışma dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde, kavramsal olarak Ortadoğu tanımına ve bu tanım içerisinde Ortadoğu bölgesine ilişkin öneme vurgu yapılmıştır. İkinci bölümde, ABD’nin 1919-2000 yılları arasında Ortadoğu bölgesi için ortaya koyduğu politikalar ve olaylar sonrasında göstermiş oldukları tutum ortaya konulmuştur. Üçüncü bölümde ise Büyük Ortadoğu Projesi hakkında kuramsal bilgiler verilmiştir. Son bölümde ise Büyük Ortadoğu Projesi’nin uygulanmasına ilişkin savaşlar ve Radikal-Ilımlı İslam ayrımı üzerinden ABD’nin Ortadoğu bölgesindeki devletlere yaklaşımı ele alınmıştır.
Abstract
The United States has a variety of political, economic, and military policies related to the Middle East in the historical process. One of these policies is the Greater Middle East Initiative Project. The main objective of this study is to make an inference regarding the USA whether has been successful or failed with the 'Greater Middle East Initiative Project' carried out in the Middle East, as an important field for the USA with its geopolitical situation and strategic significance in the global power race. This study has mooted that the Greater Middle East Initiative Project, which reveals the USA's global and regional interests, has failed. This study consists of four parts. The first part emphasized the Middle East's definition conceptually and the Middle East region's essence within this definition. The second part set forth the USA's attitudes after the policies and events that it had put for the Middle East region between 1919-2000. The third part presents theoretical information about the Greater Middle East Project Initiative. As to the last section, the USA approach to the states in the Middle East region was discussed through the wars related to the implementation of the Greater Middle East Initiative and radical-moderate Islamic distinctions.
